Some facts about sound
A simple comparison value when measuring the acoustic properties of a screen is the N10 value. The N10 value provides a quick indication of how many products of a certain type are required to achieve an absorption area of 10 m2 Sabine.
A lower N10 value means the product absorbs speech sound more efficiently, but that does not necessarily make it better in every situation. The primary purpose of N10 is to simplify comparisons between products of similar size and thereby make pricing and quantity estimations easier for practical installations.
Simply explained
- N10 = number of products required to achieve 10 m² absorption
- Lower N10 = better sound absorption per product
Example
- N10 = 80 → Requires 80 products
- N10 = 1 → Requires only 1 product
N10 is mainly used to

SOUND ABSORPTION
Sound absorption occurs when sound waves hit the sound absorber. By adding porous, absorbent materials to a space, sound reflections that otherwise create reverberation and noise are reduced. The better the absorber, the less reflection and reverberation.
SOUND INSULATION
Sound insulation is about reducing the sound level on the other side of the object the sound waves hit – reducing sound from source to receiver.
DIFFUSION
Diffusion means that sound is spread when it hits an irregular surface and is dispersed in different directions or broken into smaller parts, making it less disturbing. Diffusion can also be used in environments where you want the soundscape and room to feel larger and more dynamic, such as cinemas and studios. Bookshelves or plants can, for example, function as diffusers.
