A PLACE FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY COOPERATION AND KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

FRANKFURT UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES

INTERDISCIPLINARY COOPERATION AND KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE, these were the first keywords our partner heard at the first meeting with the future users of HoST (The House of Science and Transfer). From this first meeting to the arrival of the first research group, 2 years passed. During this time, the requirements-profile was developed together with the users, the resulting plans were created, and the furniture selection was defined.

Very quickly it became clear that a variety of meeting places had to be provided, both places for quick informal meetings but also enjoyable meeting rooms to ensure a longer exchange of ideas. The different types of needs resulted in a flexible workplace concept. Some of the institute's employees have permanently assigned workstations (homies), but the majority are a part of the desk sharing program (nomads) which means that they use one of the freely bookable co-working spaces.

A further criterion that the institution must fulfill is flexibility. For this reason, many of the furniture are mounted on wheels and thus can be repositioned in the room without any bigger effort. Thanks to that the workplace can be adapted by the user’s individual needs in the shortest possible time. Nothing last forever – this often applies to science and therefore the working environment must also follow this theory.
