Möbelfakta sets high requirements across the three areas of quality, environment, and social responsibility simultaneously, which makes the certification unique. Each company is regularly audited by an independent third-party auditor who also approves declared furniture. A product declaration is valid for five years and must then be renewed.

Möbelfakta is a non-profit organization owned by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and the Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry (TMF).

Quality – The requirements are based on international standards focusing on strength, function, safety, and durability. Products are tested by accredited institutes.

Environment – High requirements are placed on materials, chemicals, emissions, and sustainable forestry. Labelling, traceability, maintenance, and recycling are also included.

Social responsibility – Based on the UN Global Compact code of conduct. Manufacturers must have control over the entire supply chain and ensure that requirements regarding, for example, working conditions and human rights are met.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel sets comprehensive requirements for materials and chemicals used in furniture production, as well as for the usage phase and circular aspects such as quality, warranty, and material recycling.

The label is a Type 1 certification according to official standards, meaning the product is assessed from a lifecycle perspective. The requirements are continuously tightened over time.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is owned by Ecolabelling Sweden and was established by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
