NIKLAS AMUNDSON
Niklas Amundson, born in 1967, moved at an early age to the serene island of Marstrand on the west coast of Sweden. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began painting almost as soon as he could keep a brush in his hand. Through the years, his association and love for the sea has continued and has taken him from the deck of the 138’ sailing yacht S/S Gloria to a Marstrand pilot boat and later to the Swedish Coast Guard where he still works to this day. Now Niklas spends most of his time in Palma de Mallorca where he plans to open an art gallery.
In 2011 Niklas took over the famous light house island Pater Noster, four nautical miles west of Marstrand. There you can visit a gallery and enjoy a stay at a small hotel.
Niklas has presented his works twice at the annual exhibition of The Royal Society of Marine Artists. His first participation was at the RSMA’s 55th annual exhibition held at the Mall Galleries in London 1999. He has been the official artist for the maiden voyage of the ship Götheborg, a replica of a 18th century Swedish East Indiaman, sailing from Sweden to China and back. He also made the official work of art for the Volvo Ocean Race 2005—2006 and 2008—2009.
Niklas Amundson is represented at The Oceanographic Museum in Monaco with commissioned work of art for The Polar Expedition 1906—2006. He is represented as well on board the Royal Danish ship Dannebrogen and at The Yacht Club de Monaco. In 2014 he was commissioned to make a portrait for HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco.
Drawing inspiration from his current life in Palma de Mallorca, Niklas is always on the lookout for new motives that inspire him. He paints continuously, and in his own words: “I receive a daily dose of inspiration through living close to the sea”.
